    Marie Jones

    Mrs. Marie Jones, 89, passed away on July 17, 2020, in Perry.

    She was born June 1, 1931, in Branford to Oscar Swails and Gladys Milford Swails.

    Mrs. Jones was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church, where she tended to the nursery and taught Sunday School.

    Marie worked as an assistant to the county agent at the Taylor County Extension Office for many years back in the 1960s and early 1970s.

    She really enjoyed gardening and canning her own vegetables. She was a seamstress and she liked to crochet. In her spare time she would like to fish on the Suwanee.

    Marie was preceded in death by: her daughter, Linda Marie Chammoun; her granddaughter, Sara Jones; her parents, Oscar and Gladys Swails; her sisters, Pat Baggett and Adele Wheeler; and her brother, Edsel Swails.

    Mrs. Jones is survived by: her husband of 69 years Mr. Ray Jones; her sons, Al Jones (Julie) and Bill Jones; seven grandchildren, Ayla, Krista, Kelsey, Jake, Steven, Nick and Chris; eight great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Irue Shephard, Sarah Fallins, Toni Barrs, Novadean Flowers and Sylvia Austin; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services were held on Monday, July 20, at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Gary French officiating. Interment services followed immediately afterward in Pineview Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m., at the funeral home.

    All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
