    Public defender files to withdraw as Luther’s counsel; cites conflict

    The Public Defender’s Office has filed a motion to withdraw as counsel for accused double-murderer Joseph Luther, charged in the July 17 deaths of his estranged wife, Heather Luther, and her co-worker, Kirk Jansky.

    Luther requested that a public defender be appointed on his behalf during a first appearance hearing held Saturday, July 18. In completing the application for a public defender, Luther stated he had a monthly income of $2,000 and had no savings or assets.
