“Elysium,” starring Matt Damon (“The Bourne Identity”), Jodie Foster (“Contact”) and Copley features engaging action while also addressing social issues of the day.
While “Elysium” delivers the action and should entertain fans of both science-fiction and smart thrillers, it does not have the staying power that director Neill Blombkamp’s previous work, “District 9,” had. This is mostly due to the heavy-handed manner in which Blomkamp (who also wrote the script) handles the film’s “issue”–the barriers between the ultra-rich and the rest of us–which actually lessens the potential impact it could have had otherwise.
The film is rated R for strong bloody violence and language throughout.
