    Mask ordinance expires

    Posted on August 14, 2020

The City of Perry’s mandatory mask requirement expired at midnight Thursday, just one month after taking effect, after an emergency ordinance failed to get the required four votes needed for renewal at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.

A motion to renew the emergency ordinance actually passed by a 3-2 vote, but because the city’s charter requires all emergency ordinances be approved by a 4-1 vote, the mandatory mask requirement ended when the ordinance creating it expired at midnight on Thursday, Aug. 13.
