Rainy rescue

Rescue workers battled torrential rains while responding to a single-vehicle crash Saturday night, Aug. 29, about five miles south of Salem.

While details of the crash were not available from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) as of presstime Tuesday, witnesses on scene said it appeared the SUV slammed into a guardrail located in the center median. The vehicle sustained heavy damage on the front passenger’s side, which seemed to bear the brunt of the impact.
