Marie Sawyer

Marie Sawyer was born Essie Marie Green on July 4, 1932, in Jasper to Alvin & Ruby (Harrell) Green.

She was a resident of Advent Christian Village (ACV) for a number of years before moving into the ACV Good Samaritan Center (GSC) Nursing Home in March 2012. Marie passed from this life in the GSC on Aug. 28, 2020.

She was preceded in death by: her father; her mother, Ruby York; step-father, McKinley York of Perry; her sister, Mary Katherine Green Darnell; her brother, J.E. “Bobby” Green; her sons, Paul McKinley Sawyer and Richard Dale Sawyer; and her half-brother, John Samuel York of Perry.

She is survived by: her daughter, Sherion Anita Dees (John) Hamilton of Orange Park; her son, Harold “Mike” Taylor; her half-sister, Linda Louise York of Perry; her nephew, James L. Barlow Jr. of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; and her niece, Martha Jean (J.L.) Weldon of Valdosta, Ga.

Marie served in the Women’s Army Corps when she was a young woman. For a number of years afterward, Marie divided her time between traveling and living and working in Perry, which she considered her home during that time. Marie eventually settled in Tallahassee where she lived and worked for many years, retiring from the State of Florida prior to entering Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park.
