John Robert Weed, 80, entered eternity on Sept. 12, 2020, at his home in Perry surrounded by his family after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
John was born Nov. 10, 1939, in Chipley to A.C. Weed and Rushie Sullivan Weed.
Mr. Weed was a devout Catholic and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Since 1969, John had a long and distinguished legal career. He was a prosecutor for a short time and owned his own law firm where he practiced criminal and civil law.
In his early adult life, he volunteered with the Peace Corps serving in Nigeria, Africa, where he fell in love with the continent. He even hitchhiked across the Sahara Dessert.
He served in the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus, a fraternal Catholic organization.
He had a passion for learning and was an avid reader of law, history and theology.
John was preceded in death by: his parents, A.C. and Rushie Weed; his sister, Sybil Taylor; and his beloved granddaughter, Angel Ketring.
Mr. Weed is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Claire Weed; his children, Naomi Weed Sharp (Raymond), John N. Weed (Christina) and Emily Weed Ketring (Ward); his sister, Janice Wagner (Jim); and seven grandchildren, John Ketring, Carmina Ketring, Catherine Weed, Elizabeth Sharp, Rebecca Sharp and John Michael Weed; as well as nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Pineview Memorial Cemetery Friday, Sept. 18, at 11:15 a.m. The family will receive friends at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Divine Mercy Center in care of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
