While the Taylor County School District has a somewhat comfortable beginning fund balance of $2.7 million for the new fiscal year, it is poised to use $500,000 of that savings to offset a projected deficit when it comes to budgeted expenditures versus expected revenues.
“If nothing changes with our expenditures, we are going to use half a million dollars of our fund balance because our expenditures are half a million dollars more than our revenue. Then, if the (legislature) has a special session – which we anticipate they are – some of the numbers being thrown out are cataclysmic,” Finance Director Ashley Valentine told school board members during their regular meeting Tuesday.
