    Why are electric bills higher here?

    Taylor County customers are paying higher than the state average for electricity, regardless of which of the local companies provide their power.

    When asked, representatives of Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC) and Duke Energy Florida (DEF) — whose bills are almost identical to one another — pointed to the higher infrastructure costs involved in providing electricity in rural areas as one of the major factors in the price local consumers pay.
