Although she carried only two counties in the 11-county district, Democrat Loranne Ausley will serve as the next State Senator for District 3, after defeating fellow challenger Republican Marva Harris Preston Tuesday night.
Ausley received 53.38% (137,435 votes) of the vote, compared to Preston’s 46.62% (120,052 votes), according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s general election.
