Taylor County residents came together in support of this year’s Operation Christmas Child shoebox drive, collecting 2,300 shoeboxes that were packed and delivered to a central shipping location Monday.
The shoeboxes are filled with a variety of simple items — a wash cloth, bar of soap, pencils, erasers, small toys and even a fishing kit improvised from used medicine bottles and leftover wine corks. Yet, to the children who receive them throughout the world, the cardboard boxes are a veritable treasure chest of delights.
