Fund-raiser set for Perry man in need of a heart transplant

    Posted on January 6, 2021

Community members are hosting a mullet dinner fundraiser for Devin Kinsey, a 31-year-old Perry man in need of a heart transplant.

The fundraiser will be held in the Save-a-Lot parking lot from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 9.

All contributions will go to Kinsey’s family, who require $5,000 for his transplant when a heart becomes available, as well as financial support during their leave of absence while they stay in Jacksonville to receive medical treatment.

The meal will include two pieces of fried mullet, baked beans, coleslaw, cookies and a bottle of water for $10 per dinner.

Kinsey is currently in a Jacksonville hospital after suffering from left ventricle congestive heart failure. According to family and friends, physicians believe he was born with this condition, but in recent months it has worsened to the point that he now requires 24/7 care and a heart transplant.

Kinsey’s mother, Angie, has taken a temporary leave of absence from her job in Perry to ensure Kinsey is conveniently located near the hospital treating him.

Community members organizing the mullet dinner hope to sell at least 700 dinners.

“Let’s help him get his new heart and help take some stress off of his family and loved ones,” co-organizer Leslie Dean said.
