    Larry Gene Connell

    Larry Gene Connell, 73, passed away on Jan. 8, 2021, in Gainesville.

    He was born Dec. 2, 1947, in Perry to Ivey Connell and Ellie Ellison Connell.

    Gene honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

    Gene was a Baptist, and attended numerous churches.

    He worked as a crew leader with Proctor and Gamble for more than 38 years.

    He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing were his passions, and especially spending time with his grandchildren, neighbors and family.

    Gene was preceded in death by: his parents, Ivey Connell and Ellie Ellison Connell; two brothers, J.C. and Junior Connell; his two sisters, Ivey Louise Hanson and Wanda Kemp; and his son, John A. Thomas.

    Gene is survived by: his wife of 45 years, Mary Connell; four daughters, Melanie and her husband, Chad Thurman, Melyssa and her husband, Tim Powell, Tammy and her husband, Jimmy Markle, and Cathy Connell; two sons, Larry Connell and Kevin Connell; his sister, Yonna Pitts; brother Wayne Connell and his wife, Cathy; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Graveside services will be held on Friday, Jan. 15, at noon at Tallahassee National Cemetery with Brother Billy Gipson officiating. The family will receive friends at Burns Funeral Home of Perry prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m.
