    Betty Jean Horne

    Betty Jean Horne, 84, passed away on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, in Tallahassee.

    Jean was born Oct. 3, 1936, in Live Oak to John T. Hutcherson and Daisy Lee McCullers Hutcherson.

    She received her degree in nursing from Georgia Baptist Hospital Nursing School in Atlanta, Ga. She worked at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., and then with her husband in their local physician’s office in Perry for more than 20 years.

    Mrs. Horne was a Baptist and a member of First Baptist Church of Perry. Jean loved and served at the church as a Sunday School teacher, Bible study teacher, and supported the various mission works of the church.

    In her spare time she enjoyed sewing and quilting. She also loved fishing and attending football games with her family.

    Jean was preceded in death by her parents, John and Daisy Lee Hutcherson, and her sister, Ann Surles.

    Mrs. Horne is survived by: her devoted husband of 62 years, Hoyt Horne, MD; her beloved children, Don Horne (Julie), John Horne, Jeannie Wilson (Mack) and Walter Horne (Tiffany); her sister, Johnnie Lee Brannon; her brother, Roy Hutcherson (Jo); her loving grandchildren, Clay, Eliza, Lauren, Caroline, Kalee, Emilee, Rhett, Leah, Kendall and Ross; and great-grandchildren, Tripp, Mae and Milly; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry with Pastor Steven Ruff officiating.

    Due to COVID, strict guidelines will be in place, the wearing of masks and social distancing will be required. If you are uncomfortable in attending, please know the family loves you and fully understands in these difficult times.

    In lieu of flowers the family asks that donation be made to the First Baptist Church Mission’s Fund.

    All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
