850 area code running out of numbers

Taylor Countians will soon begin to see a new 448 area code popping up on their caller ID, as the regional 850 code that has long been synonymous with the Big Bend region nears exhaustion.

The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) approved a new area code on Nov. 5 that is scheduled to be introduced to the Florida Panhandle next month — Feb. 20.
