Marvin Thomas Sneed, born Aug. 6, 1935, passed away Jan. 16, 2021, surrounded by his family. Marvin was born in Erlanger, Ky., the second of four children born to Bailey Thomas and Katherine Lewis Sneed.

He entered the Air Force in 1957 as a jet aircraft mechanic and served for six years. He received a good conduct medal upon his honorable discharge in 1963.

After his discharge from the military, he was highly sought after by various airlines, ultimately choosing TWA where he served as mechanical service manager.

In 1959 Marvin married Erma Jeanette (Jenny) Holcomb. He and Jenny settled in Erlanger, Ky., where they began to build their family and were married for 48 years.

From Kentucky, the family moved to Perry in 1972 where he opened Marvin’s Automotive Repair and served countless families in the Perry area. He was known as an honest, reliable and highly-skilled mechanic.

In his free time, Marvin enjoyed roller skating, hunting, fishing, bird watching and working in his yard. He loved people, and was a friend to many and was always willing to help those in need.

Marvin and Jenny raised four children whom they cherished.

He is survived by: daughters, Cynthia (Cindy) Sneed Williams (husband Willis) of Nutall Rise, Teresa (Terrie) Sneed of Havana and DeAnna Sneed Nix (husband James) of Perry; son, David Wayne Sneed (wife Sandra) of Monticello; and his sister, Shirley Sneed Collins; as well as six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jenny, in 2007; brother, Jerry Sneed; and sister, Betty Lou Sneed Anderson.

The family is grateful for the kindness and loving companionship of Kay Hendry, as well as the invaluable help provided by Big Bend Hospice. Due to COVID-19 concerns, a private celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, at his home.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Big Bend Hospice in his name.
