1st Sergeant Benny Gant, 80, transitioned on Jan. 22, 2021 in Tampa.
He was born May 5, 1940, to Wade and Coreatha Gant in Perry.
He was a graduate of Jerkins High School. He entered in the Army Aug. 1961 and retired as a 1st Sergeant in October 1989.
After his discharge from the military, he was employed with the United Postal Service in 1991 as a mail handler and retired 2014.
To precede him in death were: his father and mother, Wade and Coreatha Gant; and relatives, J.S. Gant, Bereatha Gant, Annabelle Williams, Harry Gant, Bobby Gant, Mary Louis Gant, Roosevelt Gant and George Gant.
To cherish his memory, he leaves: a devoted wife, Mary E. Gant; three children, Craig Gant, Eric Gant and Sandra (Ivory) Turner; two grandchildren: Eric Gant Jr. and Danarian Gant; stepmother, May Gant; mother in-law, Willie Johnson; seven siblings, Betty Jean Cummings, Joann Bennett, Diane Gant, Earl Gant, Christina Gant, Cecil Gant and Frank Gant; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside funeral service will be Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.
To promote safety for everyone, a face mask is required and along with social distancing.
Trinity Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
