Registration is open for the second annual Chick Chain project.
The Florida 4-H Chick Chain Project is open to all 4-H members, ages five to 18.
4-H Chick Chain is a program designed to help youth learn how to raise baby chicks into mature production pullets.
Through this program, local youth learn responsibility, ethical treatment of animals, biosecurity, record keeping and communication skills.
Youth will register their project and raise the chicks for 21 weeks.
They will participate in workshops that teach the youth how to care for their chicks, show hens and complete project books, as well as allow them to participate in a show in the fall.
Participants will receive six chicks to raise and show in the fall 2021 Chicken Show. Chicks will arrive in April.
Participants and parents will be required to attend a mandatory orientation meeting on Thursday, April 1, at 5:30. At this meeting participants will receive important information concerning raising chicks, completing record and project books and building a brooder and coop.
Any member interested in participating must register at the Taylor County Extension Office by March 31, 2021.
The cost for this project is $15 per member.
