Classes for new recruits for Taylor County’s Community Response Team (CERT) will begin Tuesday, April 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) located next to the Taylor County Jail.
“CERT is a ready group of organized and trained volunteers. When disaster strikes, CERT volunteers spring into action: they take care of themselves, their family, check on neighbors, suppress small fires, conduct light search and rescue, radio communications and provide emergency medical aid and psychological comfort to their neighbors,” Director Kristy Anderson said.
During the four-week training period that begins in April, participants will receive instruction, practice and learn how to work as a team in their neighborhoods in the event of an emergency.
“No prior experience or training is necessary, and there is no fee for the program,” Anderson said.
Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m.
“There will be a disaster drill at the end of the class to test your skills,” Anderson said.
To register, please call the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management at (850) 838-3575.
