The Master Gardener Volunteers are offering a scholarship opportunity to two high school students, continuing an annual tradition of encouraging local youth to pursue careers in environment-related fields.
Two local high school students will be selected to receive $1,000 scholarships.
Students in Jefferson, Madison, Lafayette Taylor and Dixie counties, as well as those who are home schooled or attend virtual learning, are encouraged to apply.
To be eligibile for the scholarship, the student must be a high school or GED graduate, which includes homeschool graduates.
The student must also plan to attend an in-state or out-of-state college, university or technical school with a major in one of the following subjects: agriculture, environmental education, horticulture, natural resources, landscape design, forestry, animal sciences, marine science or a related field.
The student must also maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average.
Applicants should submit at least one letter of recommendation from a teacher, school administrator, coach or school counselor.
Application finalists will be required to participate in an interview.

Applications can be emailed by request, or those interested may pick up an application at 203 Forest Park Drive in Perry.
The application deadline is May 30, 2021.
“The Master Gardener Volunteers take pride in their service to the community and are eager to see students take advantage of the support they have to offer in helping to furthering their education. If you know of a deserving student, please spread the word,” Strange said.
