State suspends all inmate work squads

All inmate work squads provided by Taylor Correctional Institution (TCI) to local city and county governments will be suspended effective this Friday, as part of a reported statewide decision in response to continued personnel shortages within the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC).

The City of Perry and Taylor County Commission have relied on these inmate work squads for years to carry out numerous projects, including mowing at local parks and the Taylor County Sports Complex, as well as picking up trash, cleaning local parks and other routine maintenance on public property and local roads and ditches.
