Sgt. Jay Ricketson with the Perry Police Department (PPD) served as an alligator handler on
Friday, May 21, after law enforcement officers were dispatched to a wooded area near Southside
Park in response to two teenage girls coming upon a juvenile alligator while riding ATVs.
PPD and the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area located on Plantation Road just off Old
Dixie Highway, where they found a young alligator, approximately four feet in length. The alligator’s
mouth was taped shut before it was safely removed from the area.
