    City repeals face covering mandate

    Posted on June 4, 2021

The Perry City Council has repealed its controversial mandatory face covering ordinance, and replaced it with a less binding resolution encouraging residents to follow CDC guidelines and become vaccinated against COVID-19.

At the city’s May 25 meeting, the council voted 4-0 in favor Ordinance #999, repealing Ordinance #995, which required face coverings be worn in certain situations within the City of Perry.

“Although the council still wishes for the public to remain at a heightened sense of awareness with regard to COVID-19, the council has determined that an ordinance mandating precautionary protocols is no longer warranted,” the ordinance states.

Following the repeal, the council voted 4-0 in favor of Resolution 2021-06, which states in part, “The city council encourages the citizens of Perry to follow these (CDC) guidelines and to get vaccinated.”
