Taylor County’s constitutional officers have joined Sheriff Wayne Padgett in requesting the Taylor County Commission find a way to include raises for all county employees in next year’s budget, a move that could cost the county around $500,000.
At the commission’s May 25 meeting, Supervisor of Elections Dana Southerland, Tax Collector Mark Wiggins, Clerk of Court Gary Knowles and Property Appraiser Shawna Beach addressed the board, asking that they include in the county’s 2021-22 budget a $1-per-hour raise for all county employees except for “sworn officers” within the ranks of the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, for whom they asked a $2-per-hour raise.
