Taylor County continues to trail most of the rest of the state when it comes to the number of COVID-19 vaccines administered, as it is currently tied for the 12th lowest percentage among its eligible population out of Florida’s 67 counties.
While the county’s vaccination rate is low compared to much of the state, there was only one positive COVID-19 cased reported here during the week of June 4-10, tied with Hamilton County for the second lowest number over that period and trailing only Liberty County, where there were no new cases reported.
DOH recently converted to weekly COVID-19 reports instead of the daily reports it had been issuing since the onset of the outbreak in the spring of 2020.
According to the latest weekly update from the Florida Department of Health (DOH), 6,360 people in Taylor County had been vaccinated through June 10, accounting for 32% of those age 12 and older.
This is well below the state vaccination rate of 55% among the eligible population, with more than 10.4 million people receiving one of the vaccines to date in Florida.
During the June 4-10 time period, there were 12,157 new COVID-19 cases reported across the state, while 183,956 people were vaccinated.
In Taylor County, 59 people were vaccinated between June 4-10, the seventh lowest total of any county in the state.
Tied with Taylor in its vaccination rate of eligible residents is neighboring Lafayette County, where 32% of those 12 and older have received the vaccine.
As for the rest of its immediate neighbors, Taylor is ahead of Dixie with 29%, but trails both Madison (35%) and Jefferson (43%).
The county with the lowest vaccination rate is Holmes County at just 24%, followed by Baker, Hamilton and Union counties at 27%, as well as Calhoun and Suwannee counties at 28%.
The county with the highest vaccination percentage is Sumter County at 67%.
Currently, the Pfizer two-dose vaccine is available to those ages 12 and above, while the two-dose Moderna vaccine and one-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine are available to those 18 and older.
In Taylor County, vaccines are available at the Florida Department of Health in Taylor County, as well as nearly every local pharmacy by appointment.
