Mr. Wilton Dale Thompson, 96, passed away on June 24, 2021, at the Madison Health and Rehabilitation Center in Madison.
Wilton was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Springville, Tenn., to Orien Thompson and Carmel Herndon Thompson.
As a young man he was a member of the United States Army serving in France and Germany during World War II. This experience and serving his country instilled in him an enduring patriotic spirit. Wilton was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, most recently as a member of the Perry Church of Christ.
He and his beloved wife of 75 years, Margie, moved to Perry in 1954 from Paris, Tenn. During that time he worked at Buckeye Cellulose until moving back to Paris in 1973.
From that time he was employed by the Paris Board of Public Utilities as a lab technician until his retirement in 1989 when he and Margie returned to Perry to be close to family.
Wilton enjoyed going to the Senior Center with Margie, and was an avid gardener who loved tending to his flowers, always striving to have the most beautiful yard in the neighborhood.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Margie Wade Thompson; his parents, Orien and Carmel Thompson; and his brother, Lilburn Pace Thompson.
He is survived by two daughters: Anne (Rob) Gray and Barbara (Oscar) Howard; his grandchildren, Trey (Jessica) Howard, Melissa (Randy) Cooper and David (Courtney) Gray; grandchildren, Mattie, Millie and Carter Howard, and Caroline, Carson, Kennedy and Kannon Gray; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 26, at 3 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Joe Wynn officiating. Entombment services followed afterward in Pineview Memorial Cemetery mausoleum. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
