The Taylor Education Foundation (TEF) has announced the return of its mini-grant program, with 17 teachers being awarded $1,000 grants to implement extension projects focusing on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and literacy during the 2020-21 school year.
The Taylor County middle, elementary and primary school media centers, classrooms and STEM labs took the opportunity to extend lessons to include cooking with favorite stories, STEM challenges, escape rooms for test prep and even a NASA challenge. The mini-grant program is funded through STEM donations from Georgia-
Pacific, as well as the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations 1:1 Grant Match Program.
Since 2001, the state of Florida has appropriated nearly $52 million to the Consortium for the School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program – leveraging public funds to provide a $1 for $1 match to encourage private-sector investment and involvement for locally-driven initiatives to advance student achievement.
Local education foundations work year-round to raise their cash match through corporate and foundation grants, fundraising events and individual contributions.
“We are thankful for the continued support of our donors as we work to enrich the STEM opportunities for the children of Taylor County schools,” TEF member Jesika Curry said.
