Post honors Philip Smith

American Legion Post 291 officers honored the late Philip Smith, second vice commander, during installation services held June 15.

Smith was elected as the post’s second vice commander and died a week before installation services.

A retired Marine, Smith served two tours in Vietnam and was assigned to embassy security in various countries after the war.

“Phil’s position will not be filled for this year, as he was already elected, and out of great respect for the man he was,” officers said.
