Officials unsure what caused manatee death

The cause of death for a manatee found dead in the waters off Hickory Mound last week has been deemed “undetermined” due to significant decomposition.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) received a call on its Wildlife Alert hotline on July 15, alerting the agency that there were stranded manatees near Hickory Mound.
