An unprecedented amount of rainfall the first week of August – combined with already-soggy conditions – resulted in massive flooding and the possibility of millions of dollars in damages to homes and vehicles in the southern portion of Taylor County.
Residents located blocks from the Steinhatchee River found themselves with riverfront property as flood waters unofficially crested at 24.6 feet – the second highest level in the past 70 years — according to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) Division of Emergency Management, referencing records dating back to 1950.
