    Otha ‘Raye’ Gunter Lamonte

    Otha “Raye” Gunter Lamonte peacefully passed away in Perry on Aug. 5, 2021, after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s.

    Raye grew up on the Beach Road, was a homemaker and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. She was born on Sept. 5, 1944, in Perry to Tom Allen Gunter and Otha Grantham Gunter. 

    She was a beloved mother to Cindy Sheffield (husband, Gary Sheffield) and John Ed Courtney (wife, Katie Courtney).

    Her grandchildren include Daniel and Jonathan Courtney. She is also survived by a stepdaughter, Pam Brooks (husband, Tony); granddaughter, Bobby Haynes; and three great-grandchildren, all of Tennessee. Mrs. Lamonte was widowed by Charlie Lamonte.

    She is survived by her brother, Alec Gunter (wife, Linda) and sister-in law, Janice (who was married to the late Allen Gunter), as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

    Raye was predeceased by a brother, John L Howell; two sisters, Virginia Maxwell and Margaret Shaw; and a grandson, Matthew Taylor, all of Perry. 

    The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry, followed by a celebration of life service at 5 p.m. With Brother Cricket Watson officiating.
