    Nell Crum Young

    Posted on August 11, 2021

Nell Crum Young was born on June 8, 1928, in Franklin County to James and Dona Crum. She left her worldly body on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021.

She retired from the Taylor County tax collector’s office and was a member of Lake Bird Methodist Church.

Nell could often be found frying up some red bellies on the Suwannee River or in the cookhouse at “The Andrew’s Camp” and was always planning a “get together,” which sometimes included half the town, on Pace Drive.

She was a devoted “Granny Nell” to not only her family, but countless friends who came in and out of their door to play after school or have lunch in between classes.

She was well-known for spoiling her granddaughter, Hope, and always saying “Yes!”

Nell was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Harold W. Young; her son, Jimmy Harvey; and her five brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna Kay Brock and Harolyn Sullivan, and sons, Craig Harvey (his wife, Ruth) and Butch Young.

She was a beloved “Granny Nell” to granddaughters Hope Harvey Webb (her husband, Josh) and Pam Stewart (her husband, Ken), as well as a great-grand to Kasey Giddens (her husband, Jeffrey), Kaitlyn Stewart, Ace Harvey Webb and great-great-grandmother to Emma Louise Giddens.

A graveside service will held on Monday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at Lake Bird Church.

In lieu of flowers, Nell wished that donations be made to Oakridge Assisted Living Facility in Mayo or to Lake Bird Methodist Church (cemetery maintenance fund).
