    DOH-Taylor issues disease warning in flooded areas

    With much of Steinhatchee still under water, the Florida Department of Health in Taylor County (DOH-Taylor) is advising residents and visitors to take precautions to avoid Vibrio vulnificus (Vv) infections.

    According to DOH-Taylor officials, Vv is a rare, but serious illness caused by bacteria commonly found in warm, brackish and salt water, and in shellfish during the summer months. Concentrations of this bacteria are higher when the water is warmer.
