Coast likely to evacuate

Steinhatchee is predicted to become an island – with both main roads leading into the coastal community likely to be closed to rising floodwaters from Tropical Storm Fred.

That is the worst-case scenario, according to Sheriff Wayne Padgett and emergency management officials, who say they expect to issue a mandatory evacuation order for the coastal areas of Taylor County on Saturday, based on the latest updates from the National Weather Service (NWS).
