‘Free Guy’ has an emotional core in addition to laughs and fun action

As someone who spends a decent bit of my free time playing a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), as well as being a fan of actor Ryan Reynolds (“Deadpool”), I have been eagerly awaiting the release of the action comedy “Free Guy” for more than a year.

Like so many other movies, “Free Guy” was delayed multiple times due to COVID-19, but it finally hit movie theaters last weekend. Although I have not exactly been avoiding theaters due to the recent spike in cases, I have definitely been a little more selective in what I go see. Since “Free Guy” was released exclusively in theaters (rather than a dual release on a streaming service), for the first time in about a month, I went to a local theater and watched a movie.

And, I’m glad I did, because “Free Guy” is not only an entertaining two hours with lots solid comedy and fun action, it’s clear that a lot of care went into ensuring the story makes sense and actually gets you to care about the characters.
