‘COVID is not a get-out-of-jail-free card’

Taylor County Sheriff Wayne Padgett issued a rebuttal to families of incarcerated inmates on Thursday after they alleged the local jail was irresponsibly handling a COVID outbreak behind bars.

“As concerning as COVID is, I want you to know that COVID is not a ‘get-out-of-jail-free-card,’ and inmates will not be released as a preventative measure for contracting COVID,” Padgett said.
