    Richard James Akins

    Richard James Akins, 72, passed away on Aug. 23, 2021, at his home in Perry.

    He was born July 28, 1949, in Greenville, Mich., to George L. Akins Sr. and Addie M. Cooper Akins.

    Richard honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.

    Mr. Akins was a Baptist.

    Throughout his life, Richard had several jobs, including working for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the City of Perry, the Taylor County Road Department and, lastly, as a construction worker building sea walls.

    In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting.

    Richard was preceded in death by his parents, George L. and Addie M. Akins.

    He is survived by: his wife of 51 years, Carrie Lee Akins; his daughters, Janie Boldt and Rebecca (Jason) Cristina; five grandchildren, Nikki, Steven, Eithan, Sayrie and Cheyenne; and three great-grandchildren, Riley, Kyla, and Savannah; as well as a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

    A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

    All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.

    Edwin Douglas Aman

    Edwin Douglas Aman, 83, of Greenville died Aug. 25, 2021, in Tallahassee after a brief illness.

    He was born Feb. 7, 1938, in Madison County to Ebby Douglas Aman and Winnie Jane Campbell Aman.

    He was a Baptist.

    Edwin grew up in Homestead, where he graduated from South Dade High School (1956), and then attended the University of Florida before joining the U.S. Air Force (USAF).

    While in the military, he served in Southeast Asia as a navigator on KC-135 refuelers, a systems analyst at SAC HQ in Nebraska and as a flight operations officer in Florida, in addition to numerous assignments across the U.S. and overseas.

    After retiring from the USAF, he graduated with a BS degree in accounting from Florida State University. He btained his license as a CPA and was also a certified estate planner.

    He provided accounting services to a “little theater” group in Tallahassee, Aucilla Christian Academy, and briefly worked for the State of Florida in state lottery oversight.

    Edwin was a man who believed in helping others, whether by manual labor, monetary assistance or financial advice.

    He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors, especially in the company of his cousins.

    Edwin was preceded in death by: his parents; his elder sister and brother-in-law, Melba and Stuart Campbell; his brother-in-law, Joseph Cinereski; and a nephew, Kyle Campbell.

    He is survived by: two sisters, Jerolyn Cinereski of Gainesville and Vicky Aman of Eridu; three nephews and a niece and their families: Kent and Kim Campbell, Kevin and Christa Campbell, Chris and Rachel Cinereski, and Stephanie Cinereski and Red Byer; and a host of beloved cousins.

    A graveside service was held at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church cemetery on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Norris officiating.

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.

    All arrangements are under the care of Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
