Volunteers needed for Scallop Count Sept. 8

As the 2021 recreational bay scallop season draws to a close for most of Taylor County, the local Extension Office is seeking volunteers for the first post-season scallop count in four years, which will be conducted on Sept. 8.

The event, hosted by the Taylor County Extension Office, University of Florida, Florida Sea Grant and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), will be a volunteer-based collection of data, which will be used to estimate the remaining scallop population after the 2021 season closes on Labor Day, Sept. 6.
