    Posted on September 15, 2021

“God has been so good to me, I have been so blessed!”

Dorothy “Dot” Brett, 87, of Euharlee, Ga., (formerly of Perry) went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021. She passed away after a short illness. She was born the youngest of three to the late William A “Willie” and Marie Brower of Lakeland on Oct. 12, 1933. She was close to her siblings, the late Ruth Lesnett of Lakeland and Bill (Cynthia) Brower of Asheville, N.C. Dot married her high school sweetheart in the summer of 1952 and had two children, Keith (Vickie) Baggett of Titusville and Allison (Tony) Tate of Euharlee. She has two grandchildren, Kat (Ryan) Johnson of Cartersville, Ga., and Derek (Shawna) Hodges of Aragon, Ga., and two great-grandchildren. After the end of her first marriage, she married Fred Brett Jr. in August 1975. Theirs was a happy marriage until his death in 1993. The marriage added two loving stepsons, Bryan (Bernice) Brett of Dayton, Ohio, and Gary (Joan) Brett of Perry. The family grew with the addition of three grandchildren, Lauren (Barry) Rhea of Birmingham, Ala., Clay (Lindsay) Brett of Houston, Texas, and Amy (Ryan) Sherrer of Perry, and six additional great-grandchildren. She loved her family! Dot loved learning and received a B.A. from Jacksonville University in December 1970 and taught middle school math in Perry before retiring in 1993. She loved teaching.    She had so many interests in life, but her greatest love and passion was for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A lifelong Sunday school teacher, she taught the Ruth Sunday School class at Cartersville First Baptist Church.  She loved nothing more than delving deeper into the Bible, sharing knowledge and wisdom with others and growing her personal relationship with Christ. She enjoyed serving and praying for people. If she said she’d pray for you, she would. Dot was a busy lady! She was an active member of Cartersville First Baptist Church. She volunteered in the kitchen for Wednesday night meals and served in other areas as well.   She loved line-dancing and was part of the Boot Scooters with the Bartow Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, history, music and travel. She was a long-standing member of the Euharlee Garden Club, the Euharlee Historical Society and many other community organization and activities. She traveled the world, and enjoyed going and seeing places she had read about. A celebration of life service for Dot Brett will be held on Sunday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m. at the Cartersville First Baptist Church.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bartow Baptist Association, Cartersville, Ga., in her memory.
