County to vote on gas tax next week

The Taylor County Commission will hold a special meeting next week to consider extending the county’s six-cent local option gas tax for another five years.

At six cents, Taylor County is currently tied with 11 other Florida counties for the lowest gas tax in the state, according to the Florida Department of Revenue (DOR). If approved, the new levy, which would keep the rate level with the current one, will run from Jan. 1, 2022, to Dec. 31, 2026.
