Closeout yard sale on Oct. 16

    Posted on October 13, 2021

“Everything must go,” Taylor County Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Karol Newport Barr said in announcing a yard sale set for this Saturday, Oct. 16.

The yard sale will start at 8 a.m. at the office located at 1409 South Jefferson Street.

“We need to sell everything that has been donated, as we have to find a new location in the next few months, and it is difficult to move all these items,” Barr said.

Proceeds from the sale will be added to funds raised in recent raffles and donation drives in an effort to pay for materials needed to complete the organization’s current building project, a home for a Steinhatchee family of six.

The local non-profit recently raised nearly $12,000 toward their goal of $30,000, which will be matched by a local donor in $10,000 increments.

“That is the amount needed for building materials to complete the home,” Barr said.

Habitat provides affordable, sustainable housing for people who do not qualify for conventional mortgages.

They must pay for the home through an interest-free mortgage.

“We provide a hand up, not a handout.” Barr noted.

Anyone wishing to help with donations or volunteer time for the build may call the office at (850) 584-3838.
