While a pair of water samples taken off the coast of Taylor and Dixie counties in the past week detected “low” and “very low” levels of red tide, there have been no reports of fish kills in the area.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), a “patchy bloom” of the red tide organism Karenia brevis (K. brevis), persists along Florida’s Gulf Coast, as the phytoplankton that causes red tide was detected in 157 samples over the past week (Oct. 8-15).
