Hayfield fire

An apparent failure in a hay baler resulted in an “out of control” grass fire at a property located off West Highway 98 Wednesday afternoon, according to Taylor County Fire Rescue (TCFR) Chief Dan Cassel. TCFR Station 1, along with crews from the Florida Forest Service, responded to a report of a hayfield on fire at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

“The farm equipment and surrounding grass fire was quickly contained within the landowner’s property,” Cassel said. No person, nor livestock, were injured during this incident, however, a tractor, hay rake and hay baler were destroyed by the fire.
