Red tide alert issued

On Wednesday, the Florida Department of Health in Taylor County (DOH-Taylor) issued an “alert” concerning a red tide bloom “near Big Grass Island and Piney Point,” and the state’s mid-week red tide update indicated that “bloom concentrations” of red tide were observed in two samples taken offshore of Taylor County.

However, according to the daily sampling map released by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) on Wednesday, Oct. 27, red tide was “not present” in 12 of 15 water samples taken off the Taylor County coast over the previous eight days and was detected in only “low concentrations” in three samples.
