PPD loses longtime captain

Family, friends and the local law enforcement community were shocked and saddened early Tuesday as news spread of the death of longtime Perry Police Department (PPD) Capt. Gene Franklin, who passed away following a sudden illness. He was 54.

Funeral arrangements were still pending as of press time, as multiple units from local law enforcement and other first responder agencies formed a procession that escorted Franklin back to Perry from a Tallahassee hospital mid-morning Tuesday
