    Lonnie Burrell Jr.

    Lonnie Burrell Jr., affectionately known as “Bug,” was born on Jan. 28, 1965, in Crawfordville to the late Lonnie “Jack” Burrell Sr. and Janie Crowder Burrell. Lonnie grew up in Foley, attending Gladys Morse and Perry Elementary schools. He graduated from Taylor County High School in 1984. He was a father, hard worker and provider for his family. He was employed with Suwannee Lumber Company in Cross City for 20-plus years as a machine operator. He was later employed with the Taylor County Lonnie ‘Bug’ Burrell Jr. School Board, where he served proudly as a school janitor for the past 10 years. Lonnie “Bug” Burrell Jr. passed away suddenly on Nov. 10, 2021, at his home. Lonnie was preceded in death by: his parents, Lonnie Sr. and Janie Burrell; two brothers, Dwight Anthony “John” Crowder and Stanford Lewis; and one sister, Wanda Gail “Duck” Coverson. He leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Rashod Burrell of Gainesville and Chedrick Burrell of Perry; one brother, Hal Lewis Sr.; three sisters, Teresa Ortiz, Jacquelyn Burrell and Janet Sanders; and his grandchildren, Hayden Burrell and Ja’Nylia Burrell, both of Gainesville. He is also survived by his best friend, Mr. George Demps, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Viewing was held Friday, Nov. 19, from 4-6 p.m. at Evans Walker Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Saturday, Nov. 20, at 11 a.m. at Springhill Cemetery.
