    Taylor County Master Gardeners kick off new training program in January 2022

    Taylor County’s Master Gardener program is now accepting applications for its upcoming volunteer training classes, which begin Jan. 19.

    Classes will be heldevery Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Taylor County Extension Office located at Forest Capital Hall.

    Completed applications, along with the $125 class fee, must be submitted by Jan. 14.

    “Training involves partnering with other county extension agents and specialists to deliver presentations, hands-on demonstrations and field trips covering a variety of horticultural topics,” said Lisa Strange, Taylor Count agriculture & natural resources extension agent II.

    “You will receive 50-plus hours of practical horticultural training on botany, plant pathology and integrated pest management, soils and plant nutrients, vegetables, fruits and trees and turf grasses, as well as Florida-Friendly Landscaping,” she said.

    The fee covers manuals and other materials used for training. (Scholarship funding may also be available).

    “A commitment of 75 hours of volunteer service your first year and 35 hours per year thereafter is require to remain active with our Master Gardeners program,” Strange said.
