County commission funds jail repairs

The Taylor County Commission has agreed to take approximately $27,000 out of reserves to cover the cost of equipment repairs at the Taylor County Jail.

Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) Major Richard Johnson addressed the commission at its Dec. 6 meeting. Although he was only on the agenda to request funding to replace a panel in the jail’s fire alarm system, the board agreed to declare an emergency to allocate the necessary money to also cover replacing a thermostat for the jail’s heating and cooling systems after Johnson called the existing situation a safety issue.
