When former Taylor County High School Principal Michael Thompson was promoted last month to the new district position of director of support services, one of the areas of focus he was tasked with was improving student attendance.
Based on numbers from the Florida Department of Education over the past decade, it appears he has a large job ahead of him, with Taylor County ranking among the lowest in the state in the percentage of students attending class.
