Sunken sailboat leads to arrest

An investigation into a derelict sailboat that was apparently abandoned by its owner and allowed to “free float” off the Taylor County coast for nearly three months has resulted in the arrest of a Perry man on felony charges of illegal dumping.

The boat, which the owner attempted to tow offshore, eventually sank and became an “extreme navigational hazard” due to approximately 15 feet of its metal mast sticking out of the water.
